Software Engineer - Intern

What will you do?
Software Engineering Intern will join the Data Science team in the Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Groups, and will be responsible for working with business leaders and team members to architect and develop business applications and automations on premise and within Cloud environments. This resource will have to be able to think on their feet and solve issues as they happen without specific documentation. Candidate must possess skills to work effectively remotely in an agile team to design, develop, and maintain web applications and microservices.

This position offers an exciting career to work on systems using the latest technologies including AWS, Docker, Content Management Systems, Product Information Management System, Recommendation engines, Middleware and ERPs.

A day in the life:
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, administrate, and maintain critical programs and applications.
  • Responsible for initial design and development of new software and/or extensive software revisions.
  • Define technical requirements and create high-level architectural specifications, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and integration with existing systems/platforms.
  • Represent the team in cross-organizational development forums as well as customer requirements gathering and software validation and training sessions.
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to understand complex problems and resolve them efficiently. Use prior knowledge and experience to provide functional and technical support and leadership to colleagues.

Requirement:
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalently technical fields.
  • Significant understanding of object oriented design and programming.
  • Full stack web development experience with JavaScript, HTML5/CSS,
  • Web Service design experience: Request/Response handling, authentication, REST APIs Experience with databases, database architecture, and standard methodologies as it applies to both application and big data.
  • Backend programming and API construction using PHP or Python.

Pluses:
  • Data integration, data analysis, and ETL technologies knowledge is a plus.
  • Data modeling, design and database programming using a variety of relational (Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL, SQLLite) and No-SQL technologies (MongoDB, CouchDB, Cassandra, Neo4j).
  • Cloud-based applications using AWS is highly preferred.
  • Cloud Experience Strong Web 2.0 experience essential, including use of OO Javascript, Ajax, JS libraries (eg ExtJs/jQuery/DOJO/ etc) Bootstrap, HTML 5, CSS, JSON, strong understanding of browser compatibility issues.
